Partnerships with Foreign Countries
In the modern world, advanced education is needed to drive the business forward and allow the country to stay competitive. In order to enhance its academic development, not only does the faculty have to increase the efficiency within the institution, but it also needs to expand and create networks with foreign institutions. Collaboration with foreign institutions will help the Faculty to keep up with the international academic community, and allow the Faculty to focus its objectives and missions better. The collaboration will allow exchange of staff and students, provide scholarships and financial supports, as well as updated news and information. The Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University, has realized the importance of international collaboration, and has been partnered with many foreign institutions. So far, our collaborative efforts have brought about international curriculum programs, staff and student exchanges, scholarships, educational services, scientific research, and useful academic activities. Currently, the Faculty of Engineering collaborates with foreign institutions through its own MOU’s with the institutions as well as through the MOU’s Khon Kaen University has signed with others foreign universities. Some of these universities include, 1. Mie University, Japan 2. Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan 3. Saitama University, Japan 4. Florida International University, USA 5. Florida Atlantic University, USA 6. University of South Australia, Australia 7. University of Regina, Canada. The collaboration with the University of Regina deserves a special mention. With the University, the Faculty is running a 2+2 program in which qualified students in the program will enroll their 1st year and 2nd year at Khon Kaen University, and will continue their 3rd year and 4th year at the University of Regina. Students in the program will receive degrees from both universities. In order to create academic collaboration in a wide variety of fields, the Faculty of Engineering has expanded its global networks to enhance its academic programs especially in the technological fields that are helpful for the development of the country. Collaborative programs can be found in the entire 8 Departments within the Faculty of Engineering. For instance, the Department of Civil Engineering has provided opportunities for students to do internship at the University of South Australia, Australia. The Department of Agricultural Engineering has partnered with the American Society of Agricultural, Food and Biological Engineers (ASABE), and has organized international conferences. The Department of Environmental Engineering has partnered with University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Gifu University to study the effectiveness of water resource management and water usage near the Pong River Basin. Furthermore, the Department has also organized The University Consortium for Environment Management (TUCEM). The Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Industrial Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Engineering have offered the 2+2 programs with the University of Regina. The Department of Chemical Engineering has provided opportunities for students to study abroad for 1 month. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has provided opportunities for foreign students to study and do internship at the Department. The Department of Computer Engineering has regularly arranged seminars by lecturers from foreign institutions such as from Louisiana Tech University and from The University of Texas (Arlington) in order to provide new experience and knowledge for students.
