During 7-11 November, 2016, the research center called Water Resources and Environmental Institute together with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, on behalf of the Thai-German Competence Center for Sustainable Water Management, which was established on January 2016, organized a workshop titled “The improvement of KKU Weir 1984” at the Faculty of Engineering, KKU, Thailand.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Kittiwet Kuntiyawichai, Deputy Director of Water Resources and Environmental Institute revealed that, “This workshop has successfully been completed with the financial support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). All activities in this five-day workshop comprised of:
- discussing and brainstorming about ‘the improvement of KKU Weir 1984’ by adapting the principle initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Khammad Subdistict, Samsung District, Khon Kaen Province;
- Site visit and sharing experience in water resources management among representatives from various Thai organizations; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand Royal Irrigation Department, Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, Khammad Subdistrict Administrative Organization, local stakeholders and representatives from Germany; Prof. Dr. Franz Nestmann together with research team from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Gernamy.
From this event, the Thai-German Competence Center for Sustainable Water Management has planned to restore the ‘KKU Weir 1984’ within 2017 (for further information, please visit our website http://ccswrm.kku.ac.th).
