On September 23, 2024, the “Pakkapok” team, composed of Thidaluk Muangphan, Yothin Nantasen, and Piyangkoon Sarapak, students from the Computer Engineering Department at Khon Kaen University, secured the first-place prize in the “e-Waste HACK BKK 2024” competition at the university level. The team was under the mentorship of Asst. Prof. Dr. Daranee Homdee.
The team’s innovative project, “Intelligence Bin,” is a smart waste bin capable of separating waste using image recognition technology and AI. This intelligent system can accurately process and distinguish waste from other objects or backgrounds and includes an alert system when the bin is full. The “Intelligence Bin” was designed to address the growing issue of urban waste overflow, which contributes to environmental pollution and public health problems, especially in large cities. This development not only promotes more efficient waste separation but also underscores the role of technology in fostering sustainability and mitigating environmental impacts.
The Faculty of Engineering at Khon Kaen University congratulates and commends the “Pakkapok” team for bringing pride to the university. This achievement showcases the students’ knowledge and competence in their field of study, as well as their dedication to gaining valuable experiences for self-improvement.
