On August 26th, 2024, the International Affairs Unit of the Faculty of Engineering at Khon Kaen University (ENKKU) held the 2024 ENKKU Culture Connect event, bringing together international students from both undergraduate and graduate programs. The event was designed to offer participants a deeper immersion into Thai culture while providing a platform to connect with fellow international peers.
The event featured two main activities: a lively Somtum Competition and a relaxed Chit Chat and Chill session.
During the Somtum Competition, students engaged in ice-breaking activities, followed by an interactive cooking experience where they learned to make both Isaan-style and Central Thai-style somtum. Teams, comprising both Thai and international students, participated in two exciting challenges. The first involved a word-guessing game focused on Thai culture and engineering terms, while the second saw international students trying their hand at making somtum under the guidance of their Thai teammates. The competition was filled with laughter, friendly rivalry, and cultural learning.
In the Chit Chat and Chill session, international students had the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their personal experiences at Khon Kaen University. Many expressed their admiration for the supportive learning environment, the richness of Thai culture, and the warmth of their academic advisors and fellow students. The session also served as an open forum for students to share their thoughts on how the university can continue to enhance the experience for international students.
The 2024 ENKKU Culture Connect event was a success, offering a vibrant blend of cultural exchange, friendship-building, and community engagement. The International Affairs Unit looks forward to organizing more events like this to strengthen ties among students from diverse backgrounds and to continue promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment at Khon Kaen University.
