From September 2-8, 2024, Professor Dr. Wanida Kanarkard, Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Affairs, along with Associate Professor Dr. Kulyakorn Khuanmar from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Khon Kaen University (KKU), were invited as guest speakers at the “AI Powered Innovation in Environmental Management” workshop held at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) in the Republic of Korea.
This workshop was a part of an ongoing academic and research collaboration between KKU and KAIST, which originated from the 2022 “Thai-Korean Collaboration for Circular Economy Innovation towards Sustainable Smart Cities” research project, funded by the Global Partnership from PMU-C.
The main objective of this initiative was to motivate continuous academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. The program included discussions on future research topics and hands-on training in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies applied to environmental management. The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of KAIST researchers in utilizing AI and innovation to address environmental challenges. It also sought to promote interdisciplinary research, innovation, and responses to global challenges.
The three-day training program was designed to meet the growing demand for sustainable environmental management. In addition to technical training, the event provided a platform for discussing future research collaborations between the two institutions.
This workshop not only served as an opportunity for knowledge exchange in AI and environmental management but also positioned the basis for future academic and research partnerships between leading global institutions. Special attention was given to tackling the global environmental issue of microplastic management, marking a significant step forward in addressing one of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
