New Unit Lab 2024

Environmental Engineering Program at KKU Unveils Cutting-Edge Unit Operations Laboratory

The Environmental Engineering Program at Khon Kaen University has officially opened its state-of-the-art Unit Operations and Unit Processes Laboratory, marking a significant milestone in the program's commitment to hands-on engineering education.

New Facility Enhances Student Learning Experience

The brand-new laboratory, completed in June 2024, represents a major advancement following the program's 2022 curriculum improvement initiative. The facility features six specialized laboratory stations designed to provide students with practical experience in core environmental engineering processes.

"This laboratory brings real-world environmental engineering challenges directly into our classroom," said program officials. "Students can now engage with the same equipment and processes they'll encounter in their professional careers."

Six Specialized Learning Units

The new facility includes:

  • Lab 1: Cyclone Technology - Students learn particulate matter separation techniques for air pollution control applications
  • Lab 2: Ion Exchange Systems – Hands-on training in water hardness removal using ion exchange resins for water and wastewater treatment
  • Lab 3: Granular Filtration - Comprehensive study of turbidity removal, including filter media head loss analysis and backwash procedures
  • Lab 4: Continuous Sedimentation – Practical application of suspended solids removal through sedimentation process
  • Lab 5: Gas Absorption – Operation of packed column systems for air pollution control
  • Lab 6: Filter Press Operations – Sludge dewatering techniques and filter cake resistance measurement

Toward International Standards

The laboratory development was made possible through generous support from the Faculty of Engineering and program alumni. The facility has been designed to meet international accreditation standards, including those set by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).

Commitment to Excellence

Program administrators emphasized their dedication to continuous improvement in both curriculum and facilities. "We're preparing our students for real-world challenges by providing them with the most current technology and hands-on experience available." The Unit Operations Laboratory represents the program's ongoing effort to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental engineering both domestically and internationally.

The Environmental Engineering Program at Khon Kaen University continues to enhance its educational offerings as part of its mission to develop future leaders in sustainable environmental solutions.
