Khon Concrete Visit 2025

KKU Environmental Engineering Students Explore Concrete Production Processes to Enhance Civil Engineering Fundamentals

Thirty-five Environmental Engineering students from Khon Kaen University, accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Panitan Jutaporn, conducted a field study of ready-mix and prestressed concrete production processes to apply these principles in environmental engineering applications.

Real-World Learning Enhances Student Skills

The field study was conducted on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Khon Concrete Company Limited, a leading manufacturer and distributor of prestressed concrete materials, piles, floor slabs, drainage channels, and prefabricated fencing products in Khon Kaen Province. This activity was part of the course EN612008 Basic Civil Engineering for Environmental Engineering, where students gained hands-on experience with real-world processes involving cement, aggregates, concrete testing, concrete mixing, and prestressed concrete production.

New Course Strengthens Civil Engineering Foundations

Course EN612008 is a new offering that began in 2024, resulting from the Environmental Engineering curriculum revision in 2022. The course aims to enable environmental engineers to see the bigger picture and work effectively with engineers from other disciplines. The core curriculum covers knowledge in: Basic strength of materials, Construction materials, Concrete technology, Basic hydrology, and introductory geotechnical engineering.

Applying Knowledge to Environmental Engineering Field

The fundamental civil engineering knowledge gained will help students systematically solve environmental engineering problems and apply their learning to various applications such as the design and construction of wastewater treatment systems, stabilizing hazardous waste and solidification processes, and calculations involving civil engineering components.

Ready-to-work Graduates

This field trip reflects curriculum improvements that respond to market demands, emphasizing the integration of knowledge from multiple disciplines to ensure graduates have diverse competencies and can perform comprehensive work. Learning from real sources like this helps enhance practical understanding and prepares students before they enter real workplace environments.

The Environmental Engineering Program at Khon Kaen University continues to develop teaching and learning while adding skill-enhancement activities to elevate graduate quality to meet industry and societal needs.
