On August 8, 2023, Associate Professor Pairaya Choiesai from the Department of Environmental Engineering at ENKKU successfully collaborated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the project “The Project for Development of Duckweed Holobiont Resources Values towards Thailand BCG Economy” under the SATREPS program (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development). The esteemed guests in attendance were:

  1. Prof. Masaaki Morikawa, Hokkaido University
  2. Prof. Sikazono Naoki, University of Tokyo
  3. Mr. Akira Nishikori, Project Coordinator
  4. Ms. Yoshikai Chiyo, Senior Associate Research Supervisor

On this day, Assoc. Prof. Pairaya guided all the guests to meet with ENKKU’s administration, particularly Assoc. Prof. Chiranut Sa-ngiamsak, the Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Affairs.

Under the umbrella of this project, the Environmental Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering has been granted a state-of-the-art gas chromatograph and bioreactor tanks for laboratory-scale and pilot-scale bio-gas production. Additionally, other research equipment and knowledge exchange activities, valued at more than 10 million baht, have been provided to bolster the project’s activities. This collaborative initiative is made possible through the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The objective of this visit was to provide an update on the project’s progress and to conduct interviews and observations of the research materials that were donated by JICA since last December.
