The Department of Electrical Engineering was founded at the same time as the Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University in 1964 and was supported by the New Zealand government under the “Colombo Plan Project”. The first group of students was enrolled in 1965.
Currently, the Department has many highly qualified academic staff in various fields. The Department has developed and improved its curriculum to cover almost every area in Electrical Engineering. The Department offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. The Department aims to produce high quality engineers who can design and control electrical systems, measuring tools, electronic devices, electric machines, etc. For the bachelor’s degree program, students can choose to take the following 4 sub-majors: Instrumentation and Control Systems, Power Systems, Communications and Electronics.
There are both regular programs and special programs for students who receive high vocational education diplomas to continue their studies in the bachelor’s degree programs. Currently, the Department has arranged a co-curriculum with University of Regina, Canada (2+2 program). In this program, students will study at Khon Kaen University for the first 2 years, and another 2 years in Canada.
Moreover, the Department also supports several student activities. For example, the Department supports students to serve the community by providing academic services. There are also many student clubs founded to enhance students’ knowledge and interests in Electrical Engineering such as the Mechatronics Club, the Electronics Club, and the Electrical Engineering Club. The Department also encourages students to participate in scientific activities such as the “University Initiative Project” organized by Schneider Electric Thailand Ltd. to promote the development of automatic control systems for industrial facilities. The Youth Electronics Camp or E-Camp is organizeded for secondary-school students in order to promote knowledge in Electrical Engineering fields and is continuously supported by NECTEC. We also offer the Robot-Camp for our students and high-school students.
The Department has been active in producing high quality engineers and academic projects for more than 40 years. We will push forward the development of our organization and constantly modernize our curriculum in order to continue to be globally recognized as one of prestigious institutions.
